Is the AAF the NFL’s New Farm League? By: Fatback Irvin

The Alliance of American Football (AAF) is a new football league that was founded in 2018, they started their first season six days after Super Bowl LIII on February 9, 2018.

The AAF has a total of eight teams (Arizona Hotshots, Atlanta Legends, Birmingham Iron, Memphis Express, Orlando Apollos, Salt Lake Stallions, San Antonio Commanders, Sand Diego Fleet). the players that where selected for these teams where pros or college players that either didn’t make it in the NFL or got injured which put them in a tough spot.

The AAF has some familiar names like Aaron Murray from Georgia, Trent Richardson from Alabama, Zach Mettenberger from LSU, even the former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel from Texas A&M.

The AAF is a perfect way for the NFL to keep track of players or to discover new talent, since they can see them play in games against similar competition. The AAF will keep growing which is a plus for the NFL because that means more players that they can recruit from. If the NFL and AAF work together it would make the perfect farm league.

The AAF is trying to build their name is this industry, but they shouldn’t go into it looking to be the new face of football that people watch on Sundays because that isn’t going to happen. The NFL has been around for 100 years and no one will ever pass them in that aspect. If they try and do this they will end up like the USFL (United States Football League) which will leave them as just a thing of the past.

This is also great for all the football fans out there, because you get to pick a new team to cheer for, keep up with new players, and there are more games throughout the year to watch. As a die hard football fan, I am very excited about the AAF because I think it will bring back smash mouth football, which is what the majority wants.

Right now the AAF is the NFL’s farm league. We have already seen contract offers from the NFL to the AAF’s players and season one isn’t even over yet. How long will they be the “farm league” we don’t know but this is an excited thing to watch develop. If you are a true football fan you will be pulling fro the AAF to work, because that means more football baby!
